Meditation Techniques That Bring Peace To The World

If you feel affected by the tumultuous state of the world were the only thing you see on TV is violence, political debates, coming up elections and ongoing national health issues try meditation techniques that bring peace to the world.

With all that is going on  our planet at the moment our minds are overloaded with negativity and we lose touch with who we are. Just ask yourself how many times have you turned on your TV set and it was just in the middle of bad news? It happens all the time and it can take a toll on you.

One way that works for me is to stop and sit down for meditation. During meditation I can let myself relax and experience a deeper connection with myself, the world around me, and the ever-changing flow of life. I surround myself with silence. I focus within and let it all go. When I meditate, I get my larger and deeper perspective back.

When I mention meditation to many people, they have heard of it but don’t know how to actually do it. Meditation has been part of religious traditions for thousands of years. Today there are many forms of meditation being offered by various teachers and traditions. I want to share three very simple, basic meditation practices that anyone can do to come into a peaceful state of centered awareness and relaxed presence in the here and now moment.

Okay, that’s enough theory. Lets do some practical steps now. Mimi O’Neill gives you three simple meditation techniques that you can practice straight away.

Meditation Techniques That Bring Peace To The World

The first is a simple meditation you can do whenever you need to reconnect with yourself. Sit in a straight-backed chair or on the floor on a cushion. Let your body relax and breathe fully and naturally. Take a breath into your belly and up into your chest, and exhale deeply. Invite yourself to relax. Focus your attention in the belly area. Invite yourself to sense whatever is present there. Stay with this. You will feel your own presence. Presence is an embodied state of deep connection to oneself in the moment.

A second form of meditation is a walking meditation in nature. As you walk, relax and focus on your belly center, and your heart, in the middle of your chest. You can repeat a phrase on your breath, and synchronize it with your walking. One good phrase I often use while walking is to think, “Toward the One” while breathing in as I take four steps, and then “United with All” while breathing out as I take four steps. Another type of walking meditation is to walk without a goal or an agenda, sensing your presence and being with whatever is there in nature around you.

A third form of meditation is to find a piece of music that is peaceful and inspiring. Lie on the floor and let your body relax and be supported by the floor. Let yourself merge with the music. Breath into your belly center and heart and feel your presence. Give yourself the space to be right here and now with the beautiful music.

If you develop a regular meditation practice, you will benefit from an enhanced sense of peace and well being, a sense of being connected to your authentic and actual self, and a lessening of fear and anxiety. You will also have more strength to function in the world and be with the suffering and hardships of the world, and the stress and disharmony of our time. And, you will have moments when you feel a communion with the Divine, the All and Everything.

Instead of becoming agitated or anxious with the latest news report, take a different course. Go for a walk in nature and give yourself space. Breathe. Walk without a goal, doing nothing except being in the present moment. Lie down on the floor and let some beautiful soothing music flow over your body and heart. Or, sit, and relax into presence. Feel the All and Everything hold you and feel yourself merged with all of creation. Then, let’s talk about what is happening in our world.
